Tabletop Time

It has been a while since our last post but this fall has been bussssy! The idea for this post came from the fact that it seemed like everyone was revamping their tabletop for the Thanksgiving holiday as we were selling dishes like hotcakes. Since Christmas is just around the corner we thought we'd send some tabletop inspiration your way to get those creative juices flowing for those holiday get-togethers or really any time of year. Enjoy!

I love the Michael Aram gold pear salt and pepper shakers. Adorable! Take a look at more of his pieces here.

The Juliska Country Estate looks beautiful paired with their Pewter pieces. we cannot keep this stuff in stock!

FYI...always good to know...

I love the creative use of the table runners.

Add a pop of color with a bright tablecloth...

Sophisticated yet fun.

Layer patterns and colors for an eclectic look.

I like the rustic table mixed with the elegant china and vases.

You can never go wrong with simple white Juliska. Yes, I own the stuff so I can attest to how great it is. Check out the collection on our website.   P.S. How great is this picture?

It's Friday...which means I'm keeping it light today as I know our brains, mine included, are already starting to shut down for the weekend. Instead of inundating you with paragraph after paragraph on designing the right bed for you (which sounded inspiring until I actually began writing about it) I'm just going to throw some bedding eye-candy your way...because who doesn't love to look at pics of yummy beds? Which style is your favorite? TGIF!

Inspiration Color: Perfect Peach

Everyone here at the shop is so enamored with peach and although its been making a comeback for awhile we still can't seem to get enough. Peach acts as a great neutral and complements so many colors but is more often naturally thought of as a staple for spring and summer. Mixed with soft whites and pastel colors peach is a vision of light and airy but there are so many sophisticated possiblities to bring peach into fall as well. Some of our favorite pairing are with navy, deep tobacco tones, greys and eggplant. Here's some general peach inspiration from around the web.

To Market To Market

Market is always a mix of emotions--part overwhelming, part exhaustion and (thankfully) largely part excitment. We look forward to scouting out new items for the shop, and just generally taking in all of the eye candy. This year we noticed some trends for Fall seemed to be lots of wood and bright pops of color--which we love!  As always, Juliska had some striking tabletop displays and Michael Aram introduced (swoon) a new collection of dishware. Bella Notte did not disappoint with the introduction of their Perfect Peach color and the color of the moment: Bordeaux. In no particular order, here are some market pictures of items that should be rolling into Feather Your Nest in the next few months. Enjoy!

Designer Bedroom

I am always very excited when I get the new copy of House Beautiful each month. I savor each article, slowly soaking up the text and pictures but eager to turn the page to see what's next. There is always a fun one-page article entitled "I Love My Bed" which features a photo of a well-known designer's bedroom followed by a lighthearted Q&A. This month's bedroom is New Orleans designer Tara Shaw. Known for her gorgeous reproductions of European antiques her bedroom is almost exactly what one would have expected.  Simple, white and sophisticated...even down to her bed linens. She is pictured lying on a custom designed iron canopy bed resembling her Iron Venetian Canopy Bed with Upolstered Headboard that we have here in the shop. To. Die. For. I was surprised at how modern her bed linens are which helps to make the room more transitional and not too feminine. She used Sferra's Marco Blanket Cover in Grey and their Grande Hotel sheets in White/Grey. This crisp "hotel" look has also been popular with many of our customers. Bravo House Beautiful, once again I am rejuvinated, inspired and of course,  a little envious...

How to care for your fine linens:

High quality sheets should last anywhere from 7 to 10 years, although much of that longevity is determined by the care given to them. Here are some basic steps to follow to keep your sheets nice for years to come:

1. Wash your fine linens separately from other fabrics to avoid abrasion and damage to your sheets.

2. Wash with a mild detergent. We recommend The Laundress products; they are slightly more expensive than grocery store brands but highly concentrated so it takes less per wash. Fine linens do not need to be washed in cold water but hot water and hot heat will damage the fibers and cause breakage and pilling, so it’s best to wash with warm water on a gentle cycle and dry on a low heat.

3. Store bed linens in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area.

4. Following these simple steps should provide you with many years of good night’s sleep. Remember that your bedding is an investment so investing a little time and money into the care will be worth it for the life of your sheets.
